The only alternative to a needed root canal is to have the affected tooth extracted, which we always consider a last resort due to the benefits of preserving your natural teeth. Should an extraction become necessary, we may recommend a dental implant or bridge to restore function and maintain the alignment of your teeth and bite.

These intricate images help evaluate the extent of damage and uncover any hidden root canals or unusual anatomy, ensuring your treatment is planned with accuracy and precision.

During treatment, Dr. Ball will numb the area, make a tiny opening in the affected tooth’s crown, and remove the damaged pulp tissues. Next, he will clean, disinfect, and reshape your root canals and fill them with a biocompatible material to prevent reinfection. The last step is placing a temporary filling.

After treatment, the tooth can become brittle and prone to fracture or breakage, which is why we typically recommend a full-coverage dental crown for protection. With proper care and maintenance, your root canal-treated tooth has the potential to last a lifetime.
